IMD facility Visit on 25th Jan 2025

During the visit of Meteorological Centre Ahmedabad on 25th January 2025, there will be formed three group and each group having 17 members for visiting the different sections as mentioned below:


1. Surface Observatory:

In the visit to the Surface Observatory, various types of instruments are installed, as mentioned below:

Thermometers Sensor:

  • Manual: Dry bulb Thermometer, Wet Bulb Thermometer, Minimum Thermometer & Maximum Thermometer
  • Autographic: Thermograph & Hygro Graph
  • Automatic: AT/RH Sensor

Wind Sensor: (Wind speed और wind direction)

  • Manual: Wind vane, Cup-counter Anemometer
  • Autographic: Dines Pressure Tube anemometer
  • Automatic: Ultra sonic Wind sensor.

Pressure Sensor:

  • Manual: Q- Pattern Mercury Barometer
  • Autographic: Baro Graph
  • Automatic: Digital Barometer

Rain Gauge:

  • Manual: Ordinary Rain Gauge
  • Autographic: Self-Recording Rain Gauge
  • Automatic: Tipping Bucket Rain Gauge.
  • Automatic weather Station & Automatic Rain Gauge

2. RS/RW Unit:


GPS based RS/RW ascent are taken every day at 23UTC and 11 UTC to get the information of vertical atmosphere.

3. Weather Forecasting Section:


Weather Forecasting section act as the operational interface for the weather forecast and warning services extended to the State Government and various government departments and provide necessary information/briefing on realized and forecasted weather at the district level and also for the important cities in the state for 7 days. It provides the weather information to all the users related to state disaster management and also to electronic and print media etc.

Weather Forecasting section issue the Impact based colour coded Warnings related to Heavy rainfall, Heat wave, Cold wave, Fog, Thunderstorm and associated phenomena viz., Lightning, Squall, Gusty winds, Hail etc. as and when the required conditions arise with lead time of 5 days. Also provide the forecast related to cyclone track, intensity, and associated hazards i.e. heavy rainfall, storm surge and strong winds with 4 stages colour coded impact-based warnings 5 days in advance.

In addition, Weather Forecasting section issue three hourly nowcast for affected areas during Severe weather conditions like heavy rainfall, thunderstorm, lighting and associated phenomenon.
